Rough Draft

Well for my second quarter workshop piece I chose to write an essay on my 7th grade class trips because they were the best times in my life. So, the day starts out like this.

Day 1

We came to school at 6 in the morning and wait for the buses to depart. At 6:30 the buses leave for Zia International Airport. I'm not going to mention our plane ride because it was boring. And I am not going to mention the part when we were claiming our baggages and met the Snow Leopard Leader because I'm sure everyone remembers that too. As we stepped out of the Indira Gandhi International Airport we saw the sun, after the long airplane ride. And we for the first time we felt warm after 2 hours(which wasn't a long time). We were greeted with marigold garlands by the Snow Leopard team on the bus which would take us to New Delhi Railway Station. The train ride was a long and uneventful ride too. But we did have fun talking to our friends and playing games. After we got out of the train(which by the way was 5 hours long) we took a bus and went to Camp Panther(The bus ride was long). At camp panther Mr. Roy introduced us to the team and assigned us our tent. After assigning our tents we could smell the dinner that was being cooked and found our way to the food.

Day 2

After one nights rest (which wasn't enough) we had breakfast ,which was pretty good considering the food in Hong Kong. The day began with white water rafting. Which was so much fun, with rapids. We also jumped of a 20 foot cliff , it was really scary. After the cliff jumping we went back to where we had started rafting and went back to our camp. After changed into dry clothes we had lunch which again was pretty good. After lunch we divided into two groups. Team B first went on a nearby village trek while Team A tries to rock climb (it was like the one we have in school). In the village we saw how the local people live. We saw a lot of crops and the only one I seem to remember are the mustard crops. The rock climbing was a challenge for us. It was really hard and maybe only one or two people reached the top. After that the both the teams tried a spider web activity. After our activities we had free time in which we could play soccer and other games.

Day 3

Another busy day starts. Our day started by doing some yoga. After yoga we had our breakfast (which was kind of annoying because we were really hungry before yoga).Post breakfast we had our second day's rafting activity. The second day's rafting activity was more fun because there were stronger rapids. After rafting we went to another camp for lunch(which was good) and changing clothes. Later we went to an Ashram where we learnt a lot about the Hindu religion. After visiting the ashram we went shopping and most of us bought food and jewelery. We spent the night in our new camp which was known as the Himalayan Bear Stream Camp.

Day 4

After an early breakfast we head for Camp Tusker where we will split up into our teams again. Team A goes for a cycling session in the Buffer zone of the Rajaji National Park. Team B goes for a safari ride in the Rajaji National Park itself. The cycling session was really fun. We saw beautiful forests and crops. At one point we also got of our bikes and saw a "flood check". After the bike ride we went back to Camp Tusker to eat lunch and have some "free time"(we played cricket). After lunch we went to Rajaji National Park. The trip was quiet boring but the company of my friends kept me from falling asleep. After the safari we went back to the Himalayan Bear Stream Camp and had lots of free time.

Day 5

After another breakfast everyone headed to a school near our camp. This was the service learning part of our trip. In the school we introduced ourselves and were paired up with one of the kids in the other school. Then we were divided into two groups again. While one group was planting trees around the school the other group was painting the school building. There were also a bunch of people who weren't helping in planting or painting but were teaching the children some nursery rhymes. After our service learning activity we went to the Haridwar Railway station and took the Dehradun Shatabdi which took us to the New Delhi Railway Station. From the New Delhi Railway station we went to the Tula ram marg hotel near the international airport. And you can guess what happened after that, we went into the airport and took a plane that went to Dhaka. And that's how we came back to Dhaka.

Extras

During the trip everyone had fun. Everyone was included and challenged(yes even the smart people). Through out the trip everyone became familiar with the dispositions which were-
  • Open-minded
  • Curious
  • Empathetic
  • Perseverance
  • Reflective
  • Collaborative

Day 2

After one night's rest (which wasn't enough considering how much we traveled the day before ) we had breakfast ,which was pretty good considering the food in Hong Kong (it wasn't bad but many people thought that the food in India was better). The day began with white water rafting in the ganga river . Which was so much fun, with rapids. We also jumped of a 20 foot cliff , it was really really scary. After the cliff jumping we went back to where we had started rafting and went back to our camp. After changing into dry clothes we had lunch which again was really good.
